The 32-mile Iron Horse Regional Trail passes through Danville and runs between  Concord and Pleasanton, following the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way (established in 1891). Mount Diablo State Park is a 20,000-acre park that protects Mount Diablo while providing spectacular views from its summit.

Las Trampas Regional Wilderness offers 5,342 acres of wilderness and an expanded trail system. Diablo Vista Park features sports fields, sports courts, a playground, and an iconic mosaic snake sculpture. Oak Hill Park has a picnic area, hiking and horseback trails, and a summer concert series. Osage Station Park is a 35-acre park featuring tennis courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, playground, rose garden, and path around the park. Sycamore Valley Park offers ball fields, paths, a children’s playground, and a picnic area. Canine Corral is a dog park with separate play areas for large and small dogs. The community has several other great parks as well.

Danville is served by the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.  Schools include John Baldwin Elementary School, Green Valley Elementary School, Greenbrook Elementary School, Montair Elementary School, Sycamore Valley Elementary School, Vista Grande Elementary School, Los Cerros Middle School, Charlotte Wood Middle School, Diablo Vista Middle School, Monte Vista High School, San Ramon Valley High School, and Del Amigo High (Continuation).  Private schools in Danville include San Ramon Valley Christian Academy (Christian), St. Isidore’s School (Roman Catholic), and The Athenian School (college preparatory and boarding school).

Transporation

Interstate 680 serves as the main highway in and out of Danville. The County Connection transit agency provides bus service throughout the East Bay communities of Danville, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Walnut Creek, Clayton, Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga, Danville, and San Ramon. To reach a community outside the East Bay, you can ride Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). The nearest major airport is Oakland International Airport, located 28 miles from the center of Danville. Another major airport is Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, located 38 miles from town. San Francisco International Airport is about a 42-mile drive from Danville.
