Incorporated in 1983, the city of San Ramon is located in the San Ramon Valley in Contra Costa County - approximately 35 miles east of San Francisco in the San Francisco Bay Area. The San Ramon Valley is considered to be one of the most desirable living areas in the Bay Area due to its scenic beauty, comfortable suburban lifestyle, excellent school systems, and proximity to major employment centers. The city occupies a land area of 18.56 square miles and is surrounded by the communities of Danville and Dublin, as well as unincorporated areas in both Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

San Ramon encompasses a major regional employment center, Bishop Ranch, which is home to over 600 thriving companies in more than 30 industries - from Fortune 500 companies such as Chevron, AT&T, PG&E, Bank of the West, GE, and Ford to smaller companies and professional practices in growing areas like social software and clean technology. Over 21,000 office workers commute daily to Bishop Park and 16,000 jobs are expected to be added over the next 15 years.  Bishop Park covers the vast majority of "Central San Ramon", which is the large square formed by Freeway 680 on the west, Crow Canyon Road on the north, Iron Horse Trail on the east, and Bollinger Canyon Road on the south.

San Ramon Schools & Education  

The highly-acclaimed San Ramon Valley Unified School District encompasses the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, and San Ramon as well as a small portion of Walnut Creek and Pleasanton. The district is comprised of 35 schools serving more than 32,000 students in Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 12. The district ranks 8th among all unified school districts in California, and 3rd in northern California.

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District has been recognized for its excellence by the State Department of Education's coveted Distinguished Schools Award and through recognition by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools. Over 94% of graduating seniors attend college or university and district students are accepted into the University of California and the California State University systems at rates far exceeding state averages.

City Government

The city of San Ramon operates under a Council‐Manager form of government with over 250 employees, serving a population of approximately 79,000.  The City is comprised of six departments, which are General Government (City Council, City Manager, City Clerk, and City Attorney), Administrative Services (Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology), Community Development (Building, Planning, and Economic Development), Police, Public Works (Engineering, Transportation, and Maintenance), and Parks and Community Services.
